WinterAfter living in Utah for 16 years, we decided it was time we take advantage of the “greatest snow on earth” and hit the slopes. Mark decided to try snowboarding (and quickly decided it isn’t compatible with a 30+ year old body). Dylan picked up snowboarding right away (it helps to have your rear end only a foot off the ground and not be afraid to fall). Madison is cautious but keeps control and keeps up with the group. Bryce has no fear and thinks he is ready for the full size terrain park as soon as Mom will let him try it. Jen is a decent beginner and managed to keep up with Bryce through the beginner terrain park (adrenaline might have helped since I’m sure she wouldn’t have chosen to go off the moguls and jump had she not been chasing down Bryce.)
SpringAfter the snow disappeared, it was birthday time! Madison hit double digits when she turned 10 this year. To celebrate she had a “Teeny Tiny Tenth Birthday”. The food, cake and games were all tiny, but the girls had big fun. Bryce had his first big friend party to celebrate turning 6. All the boys in his class were invited and had a great time “Mythbusting”. Dylan got to enter his first Pinewood Derby and celebrate the Boy Scout’s 100th Anniversary. Mark completed his MBA and Jen is very excited he is done with school!
SummerDylan kicked off summer by spending 3 days as a Confederate soldier at Camp Floyd’s Civil War camp and loved every minute of it. Contrary to history, the Confederates were able to capture the only cannon and win the day. Jen escaped with the kids to California where we were able to take a restaurant tour down memory lane, visit the Griffith Park, and escape to Solvang and San Luis Obispo before Mark caught up with us a week later. A rainy week on the beach in Oceanside wasn’t what we expected, but still gave us some much needed downtime. Then we headed up to Fresno for fun with cousins. Between the pool and visiting the lake, I think we were wet every day (which is the only way to spend the summer in Fresno). As a last hurrah, we headed to the Uintahs for a camping trip. The boys loved fishing with Dad and Madison kept herself busy making flower jewelry. It was a great trip until the thunderstorm hit and a flash flood ran through our camp. I’m sure sitting in the truck while Mom and Dad literally wrung everything out and threw it in the truck is a memory they won’t soon forget.
FallWe were dragged back to reality by football season and the start of school. Bryce started tackle football this year. He was very excited to start, but got a bit tired of all the equipment and practices so he thinks he’ll give flag football a try next year. Dylan loved every minute of the season as usual, but ended his undefeated season with a very disappointing one point loss for second place in the Championship game. Bryce started all day school this year with first grade and Jen couldn’t be happier . Madison is in fifth grade and Dylan is in third. They are all excellent students and make their parents very proud. We also got a new addition this fall when Bella, our new Chihuahua, joined the family. She is as mischievous as you would expect a puppy to be, but is so tiny and sweet that no one can resist her.
We are very thankful for the great opportunities we have had this year. We wish the same for our friends and loved ones. May you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Love, Mark, Jen, Madison, Dylan and Bryce
